it's may long weekend again!

may long has long been a time for awesome. we knew we had to keep that going.  we did.

we hit up a little lake we've been to before.  in fact, kris left his phone there one day.  in february. in 3 feet of snow.  in the middle of the random bush.  we also camped there last winter.  under a tarp.  in 4 feet of snow.  in the middle of the random bush.

the perfect spot

this little lake had given us so much joy.  now it was time to give some back.  whatever the heck that means.

we got the tents set up pretty much instantly.  good to get that over with.  the it was canoe time.  the lake is not that big and we did a few tours.  checking out places that were much different in the winter.  we also recon'd the area we suspected the phone would be.  it was smelly.

swamp phone recon
a stop for some random bushwhacking.

this wasn't the time to look for it, so we headed back to camp and got some firewood.  it wasn;t hard because it was everywhere.  like really.  we could have stayed for 2 years and not have burnt all the dead wood on the ground within 50 feet of our fire.  anyway.  we got lots of wood.

kris trying out his sweet new axe.
we were expecting a bit of rain, so tarps were set up.  awesomely.  kris also whipped up some sweet benches.  they were also awesome.

got some wood

got some benches

take it all in
The next day  started with some early morning fishing.  it was raining and we didnt catch any wish.  it was sweet.  then it was back to the shore to find john had dropped by.  he threw some gas on the proverbial fire of adventure (not the real fire... thats dangerous) and we were in the canoes again.  it was time to go phone hunting.

we went back to the smelly swamp and got out.  thats some thick bush.  we figured we were kind of in the right area but a bit unsure, until we found a spot that looked for sure familiar.  we followed what we figured was our trail and then the clouds parted and a bright beam of light came down from the heavens.  i watched the light slowly penetrate the thick leaves and followed it's angelic beam.  when it finally kissed the ground, a cherub hand emerged from the dewy leaves and there, in it's delicate hand, was a samsung galaxy.  kris's phone had been found!!!

the lost treasure recovered.
that got pretty climactic.  not sure how to follow it up.

then we went back??
laughing in disbelief
We got back to the camp, got the fire raging, and began to cook meat.  we had all kinds of meat.  chicken breasts and drumsticks, hamburgers, and rack of ribs.  kris sharpened my chainsaw beacuse he's good at it and i'm not.

mmmmmmmeat.  and beer.
John took off at a responsible, but not nerdy time.  we got the fire up and kept on keeping on.  long long long into the night.  kris fell asleep by the fire, zach and i found our tents and mary claimed one of the awesome benches and we drifted off to dreamland.

it's hard to linger when the end is near.  like pulling a band-aid.  pack up quickly and relax for a bit after. thanks again mary for some pictures.

back up the trail.
just before we left, a sweet 84 mazda rx-7 gsl-se came by.  it was going pretty quick and sounded pretty awesome and i'm pretty sure i saw the same little hand from the forest that returned the phone to us waving as we left.
