feb 24, in which mikes new truck gets stuck

so mike got a new 4runner. we went and picked it up on saturday in vernon. he decided to get it stuck and i needed more firewood. all the winter adventures have run my stockpile to almost nothing. we headed up to postil. the mud pits were pretty much frozen, except for this one spot near the edge. mike parked it in there. i towed him out.

first stuck for mike.  maybe the first one ever for his truck.
After getting the truck out.  we shot these guns.  mike can hit a moving balloon at 300 yards no problem.  any colour too.
12ga. and sks
Also, it appears postil is still a parking lot for unwanted/stolen trucks.  someone left the keys in this one.

wanna race?

2 trucks. and the tow strap.  i left it like that all morning.  might need it more.

that bumper looks sweet.  another part of truck 1 re-incarnated.

This truck guards the entrance to the playground.  has a larry's cycle sticker on the dash.  thats funny because i used to work there.

We were home by 2 and it was a solid mission.  trucks got stuck, guns were fired, and firewood was collected.  good times.

oyama lake once again

After such a sweet weekend last time, we decided to revisit oyama lake lodge.  Donald came over and we met up with James and his girlfriend Christine at the bottom of the road.  We headed up with purpose, stopping only to collect firewood for the night.

arriving at the resort

First thing we did was strap on the snowshoes and tour around oyama lake.  it was sunny and clear, which was a nice change from the could at the bottom where we started.

snowshoeing on oyama lake

we found jordie again and he showed us the cool antler / wagon wheel light in the main lodge.  i want one.

The rest of the day was spent chilling out and getting ready for the evening, and eventually the night.

In the morning we had many tasty breakfasts and slowly packed up.  bye bye lake.  see you again soon

overnight at oyama lake

long weekend time. pat, charlie and i packed our tents and headed up to oyama lake to do some winter camping and ice fishing.  the truck was full, and we were ready for anything...

the road up to oyama lake

the hole into oyama lake
as usual, we didn't catch any fish that evening, but we had a great time.  soon it was time to start thinking about setting up the tents.

pat trying for dinner.

hi charlie
After messing around on the lake for a few hours, it was time to set up the tents, but not before a walk through the resort.  on the way through, we ran into jordie, who we met last st. patricks day.  we told him we were going to stay in some tents to which he replied "why don't you stay in one of the cabins?"  but with more slurring of the speech.  so we did.

pat getting the fire going in the cabin
We slept warm and well in the cabin.  so well, we were up on the lake at 8 am for more ice fishing.

We left without fish, but had a mega blast regardless.  might head back to the cabin next week, if you want to come.

ok mountain is more than just ok

Long weekend of a saturday. time for adventure. Tom and i hiked into okanagan mountain park. It was good.

We went in at a new place and climbed towards wildhorse canyon.  we had snowshoes in the truck, but we didn't bring them on the trail.  good thing.  we didn't need them.

tom doing his turn on the catwalk.  on the catwalk.  yea.

creeks are starting to flow.
The creeks are melting and flowing at lower altitudes.  spring is coming.  woot.

towards goodes basin
The fire was through here 10 years ago, but feels like it was yesterday.

hot chocolate time
I brough the new stove i got after christmas to test it out.  the hot chocolate and bailey's was hot a bailys-a-rific.

don't be sad tom.

This trail actually goes right around the park and might take 3 or 4 days to hike.  I think the summer will see a return to this area, with tents. you can come.

a 3 wheeled sunday

Sunday afternoon. Mike got 2 trikes ripping. since he can only drive 1 at a time, i took one for the team and hopped on the 2nd one.

heading up gillard rd.

of course i'm smiling.  couldn't stop in fact.
We ripped up gillard rd and hit the trails right away.  lots of getting stuck, followed by getting unstuck.
on the kvr
We got to the top of the road and onto the kvr.  the tracks were not made by trikes, and staying pointed straight was a fun challange.

veiw from the seat

at the top.  looking over kelowna
At the top we celebrated the awesomeness by standing.  pretty sweet.

getting dark, time to head back :(
can't wait for spring to get really muddy.  was your sunday this awesome?

back to fish lake... now with fish!!

If any lake has fish in it, it's fish lake. so thats where we went. we being roderic the 3rd, mike, 2 other doods, and me. we took mccolough rd up and hiked the 1.5 km to the lake. it was a cloudy day, but so what?

fish lake cabins

mike.... fishing
The lake is small and shallow.  and popular with fishermans it appears as well.  there were about 10 others out on the lake.

It was a normal day. no expectations for fish.  rod and i were talking and his fishing rod fell over.  turns out.... IT WAS PULLED OVER BY A FISH!!!!!!!

the first fish of the winter. 2.5 lbs.
we walked around the lake and checked it out as well. a few cabins for sale. pretty cool spot.

celebrating with an adult beverage

layercake mountain
I'm glad rod could come with us and break his 17 years fishless spell.  you could too, but you gotta play to win.  or play and still not catch fish, in my case.

snowshoe saturday

today christine and i got a late start, but better late than never as they say.  part of the delay was that we hit up teds used books.  tough to spend less than a hour there.  we took the lancer up to kelowna nordic centre and spent 2 1/2 hours snowshoeing.  made it back just as the sun was dropping behind the mountains.

big white.  there it is.

we had some sun at least.

Not sure how much longer snowshoeing will be a possibility.  a month or so.  maybe 8 weeks.  better get it while its cold.

We did a new trail up there.  snowbound i think its called.  always cool to check out new trails and areas.
the trees are much smaller there than at silverstar.  logging i suppose.
It was another great day.  no gloves needed and lots of snow.  the snow is disappearing quickly in the valley, but still enough for winter adventures at the higher elevations.
