cougar canyon

cliffs of insanity, i mean cougar canyon

i've been up to cougar canyon a few times, so i thought this time i would write it, and add some photos.

looking across coosen's bay to the trail on the other side

the canyon is a popular rock climbing place in Kal park. you can hike through the park or drive to the parking area where the trail begin. we brought our bikes once, but the trail gets a little nutty, so we stashed our bikes in the bush and continued on foot.

looking down from the top. there is a climber in this photo

me on top

about 3/4 of the way in you come to a split in the trail. one way leads down to the base of the 100 foot cliff, the other leads to the top. i like the top way better, but word on the street is that there might be some kinda hiking trail along the bottom of the canyon to oyama. have to check that out sometime.

Blue grouse, the mine, the mountain, the men!

This was not the first trip to the mine on Blue Grouse, but it was our first trip to the top of the mountain itself. It was a bit of a crazy road, the rain was melting the snow, so there was some mud. Patrick and I hit up some geocaches on the way up, met a guy i knew from winnipeg 13 years ago, and checked out the hang-gliding launch. No drama involved, which is what you want for a sunday afternoon mission.

here are pictures...

patrick about to enter. will he come out alive???

just incase you get lost. we didn't. you can't really.

i'll have to come back in 2 million years and see how big these are then. someone remind me.

approaching the door, from the inside.

the road on the way up

the cloudy view from the top of blue grouse mountain

i think my eyes were closed. shoulda taken 2 shots.
